Shaft straightening

Widely used in the axel, shaft, pipe, etc. straightening process.

What is straightening?

Definition:

Straightening is the repair of bending and deformation of bar-shaped workpieces.

Purpose:

The straightening technology is usually applied for the semi-finished products or finished products.

Through straightening, it can achieve the ideal straightness and rotation accuracy. This aims to ensure the machining allowance of the next process of parts or achieve assembly accuracy. Meanwhile, it can also reduce the scrap rate of the workpieces.

Straightening technology can also reduce the processing allowance and save cost. After straightening the workpieces, it only needs to leave a small machining allowance for the next process

Three-point bending straightening

Just like the picture on the left side, two supporting blocks is put at two points of the workpiece. The higher point is between the two supporting points and is upward.

Then the press head will press the high point to a certain displacement to achieve the purpose of straightening. It is also called three-point reverse bending straightening.

Roller straightening method

This straightening method works through pressing the workpiece by the support roller and the press roller. Then, the rotation of the roller drives the workpiece to move forward. This can realize the continuous rolling of the entire length of the workpiece to achieve the purpose of straightening.

Rolling straightening can be seen as a continuous three-point bending straightening. This straightening method would have stricter requirements for the shape of workpieces. It can only straighten workpieces with equal cross-sections.

Heating straightening method

This straightening method works by using flame or induction coil to heat the high point side of the workpiece. Then, after reaching a certain temperature, cool down the workpiece and let heated area expands and then contracts. In this case, the stress changes from tensile stress to compressive stress to achieve the purpose of straightening.

Why straightening?

Straightening is an indispensable and important process during the shaft processing.

Without straightening process, it can leave a large processing allowance for the next process, which would cause waste of costs.

If adopting unqualified straightening process, a large number of unqualified products will appear in the subsequent processing process. The workpiece quality will be heavily affected. Therefore, straightening is a key process to reduce costs and increase production efficiency.
